very vulnerable area for rust is the corner of the end of the heating ducts, the problem is the two spot-welded metal plates that create a hotbed of rust and rot. You can only replace the outer part (see the Replacement Parts and Options tab) if the inner part is not rusty. In this case, it is advisable to replace the entire heating duct and not clutter up with a lot of small repair parts. Unfortunately, there are many amateur restorers who simply replace the outer part and leave the inner part as it is, as a result of which the appearance is clean, but within a foreseeable time the rust will reappear, the rust process is not stopped, but simply hidden. Solve the problem at the source, remove all rust (by sandblasting) and replace the rusty parts, only then you are well on your way to a quality restoration. The complete crossbars mentioned here replace not only the part behind the heating ducts, but also the raised edge on which the rear luggage compartment sheet metal behind the bench seat rests and through which the heating pipes pass. The holes for mounting on the bottom plate have not yet been made, they need to be drilled. The welding nuts for assembling the heating outlets still need to be installed, you can use the old part as an example and reuse the existing welding nuts. Before starting this work, make sure that everything is in place, do not forget to use zinc spray between the sheet metal parts and seal the seams so that moisture does not stand a chance in the future. Note: These parts can also be used for early Beetles up to 1964/7, but it is necessary to replace the heater pipes (heating bakelite) (1095-7) with the foam seal (1095-700) and the rubber sleeve (1080-5) (see Related parts here).
