The purpose of these seals is to seal the connection between the suspension arms and the front axle on type 2 buses from 08/67 to 07/79, so that the grease remains in the front axle and prevents sand and moisture from entering the front axle. The latter can have very destructive consequences for the front axle bearings and the running surfaces of the suspension arms. Therefore, it is better to replace torn and hardened items immediately.

The front axle bumpers are secured with clips. These clips are made of spring steel and hold the bumper in place. Corrosion reduces the clamping area, which can cause the rubber to come loose. Checking the rubber for corrosion on the clips in a timely manner can prevent this.
